CMS PHP requirements
Check the requirements of the exact app version you plan to run before changing your server.
A practical compatibility checklist
- Confirm the target release. Read the official requirements for your CMS, framework, plugins and theme. Requirements change between releases.
- Compare PHP versions. Check the PHP version serving web requests, not only the version returned by
php -vin a shell. - List required extensions. Common needs include database drivers,
mbstring, curl, intl, zipand image processing. The exact list depends on the app. - Review limits and services. Check memory, upload size, execution time, HTTPS, scheduled jobs, database version and file permissions against the vendor's requirements.
- Test a staging copy. Verify sign-in, forms, checkout, background jobs and integrations before a live upgrade. Keep a restorable backup.
Use the server command reference for an initial check, then compare its output with a private web request. Avoid publishing a full diagnostic report. Need a planned move? See our PHP upgrade service.
